Osteoporosis causes more than 8.9 million fractures worldwide every year. In Canada, at least one-in-three women and one-in-five men will break a bone due to osteoporosis in their lifetime. Even more shockingly, fractures from osteoporosis are more common than heart attack, stroke and breast cancer combined.
However, less than a quarter of Canadian women over 55 believe they’re at risk of osteoporosis, according to an Amgen global survey on women and osteoporosis. And despite being at high risk due to rapid bone loss after menopause, less than half of Canadian women over 55 have spoken to their doctor about the disease.
Amgen is committed to combatting this disease by spreading awareness of the risks and signs of osteoporosis.
